Slip by movement of whole lattice planes
Animation of slip by movement of whole lattice planes. Shows how plastic shear deformation occurs in a 2D primitive square lattice without dislocation glide. From TLP: Introduction to dislocations, http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/doitpoms/tlplib/dislocations/dislocation_glide.php
Slip by dislocation glide
Animation of slip by dislocation glide. Dislocation glide allows plastic deformation to occur at a much lower stress than would be required to move a whole plane of atoms past another. See also the bubble raft experiment (videos 17 and 18). From TLP: Introduction to dislocations, http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/doitpoms/tlplib/dislocations/dislocation_glide.php
Shear deformation in bubble raft
Bubble raft undergoing shear deformation. The direction along which dislocations generally move is that with the highest resolved shear stress. From TLP: Introduction to dislocations, http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/doitpoms/tlplib/dislocations/dislocation_motion.php
Compressive and tensile deformation in bubble raft
Bubble raft undergoing compressive and tensile deformation. At small strains, the arrangement of the bubbles does not change. This is elastic deformation of the raft. The bubbles change shape and move slightly apart in an effort to maintain the lowest energy close-packed configuration. At larger strains, plastic deformation occurs. The bubble raft rearranges by dislocation motion. From TLP: Introduction to dislocations, http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/doitpoms/tlplib/dislocations/dislocation_motion.php
TALAT Lecture 5102: Reactivity of the Aluminium Surface in Aqueous Solutions
This lecture provides better understanding of the electrochemistry of aluminium; it gives an introduction to the other lectures. Some knowledge in aluminium metallurgy, simple chemistry (thermodynamics and kinetics), electricity and general electrochemistry is assumed.
TALAT Lecture 3201: Introduction to Casting Technology
This lecture provides an introduction to the techniques used to produce castings and to the range of castings produced; it aims at gaining an appreciation of the production and application of castings.
Multimedia Training Videos: Introduction to Graphics in Macromedia Flash
Multimedia Training Videos is a series of free learning videos to show anyone interested in learning packages like Macromedia Flash. This video is an introduction to graphics in Flash.

CRYSALLIZING DESIGN INTENTIONS, USING CNC, LASER AND RAPID PROTOTYPING TECHNOLOGIES
The advances made in the Rapid Prototyping and CAD/CAM (including CNC and Laser) Technologies are now offering designers the privilege of building physical realities, at whatever scale, directly and automatically from computer files, with the explicit implications of speed, precision and flexibility.
TALAT Lecture 1201: Introduction to Aluminium as an Engineering Material
This lecture provides an introduction to metallurgical concepts necessary to understand how structural features of aluminium alloys are influenced by alloy composition, processing and heat treatment, and the basic affects of these parameters on the mechanical properties, and hence engineering applications, of the alloys. It is assumed that the reader has some elementary knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
HIV/AIDS And Disability: New Research Findings From Kenya.
The WHO estimates that 10 per cent of the population in poor countries is disabled. Disabled people have and want sexual lives – and, because of their disabilities, they may also be sexually abused and exploited. In this lecture Dr Sam Tororei from the Nairobi based Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN) will present findings from the most recent research. He will talk about how in Kenya steps are being taken to protect disabled people from sexual abuse while encourage them to lead full sexual
Musicianship II
Intermediate ear training for both the major and non-major, this Musicianship course is strongly recommended for students enrolled in theory classes. It provides an aural foundation to the theory presented in those classes. This musicianship course is typically paired up with a music theory course. Study materials on counterpoint are provided under Resources for your review. They offer an introduction to the modal counterpoint principles that guided composers during the medieval and renaissance
Data Tool Program
Data Tool is a data analysis tool for plotting and fitting data from laboratory experiments, simulations, video analysis, or any other data set organized into columns. A click of a checkbox in Data Tool allows the user to change the appearance of plots, see standard statistics for the data set or apply built-in linear, quadratic or cubic fits to the data set. Data Tool also includes a number of standard mathematical functions that can be applied to the data set, allowing for further analysis and
Interactive Histogram
This resource consists of a Java applet and expository text. The applet allows the user to construct a histogram by clicking on a number line to generate the sample data. The class width can be varied and various summary statistics can be displayed.
Finite Order Statistic Experiment
This resource consists of a Java applet and expository text. The applet is a simulation of the experiment of selecting n objects at random from the first m positive integers. The random variables of interest are the order statistics. The applet illustrates the distributions of the order statistics.
Tobacco Excise Simulation Model (TETSiM)
Tool for tobacco control advocates and government officials considering the impact of a change in tobacco excise taxes on a number of variables.
It has been developed to analyse the likely impact of cigarette excise tax changes on a variety of variables, TETSiM allows you to answer questions such as: * By what percentage is cigarette consumption likely to decrease if the excise tax increases by 10 per cent? * How many people are likely to quit smoking? * How many people would not die prematurel
USGS Materials Maps
Visitors can learn about the relatively new field of imaging spectroscopy, which allows specific absorption features, caused by chemical bonds in materials, to be mapped spatially. Topics include an introduction to the procedure, environmental applications, vegetation and biota mapping, lithologic, and mineral mapping. A set of links provides access to reports, accompanied by spectroscopic images, on the use of this new tool in chosen locations.
