Jeremy Siegel: 'The Market Will Stage Another Recovery'
Now that it's clear the recession will not turn into a depression, stocks are poised for a recovery, says Wharton finance professor Jeremy J. Siegel. In an interview with Knowledge@Wharton, he said last week's market decline in response to rising commodity prices -- especially for energy -- and fear of the ever-growing federal deficit was no more than a short-term setback.

Editing files and Emacs
This emacs lecture is given as part of the course G51UST, Unix Software Tools. The course gives an introduction to the Unix operating system. It teaches students how to use the Command Line Interface that is part of Unix and also teaches them how to write shell, sed and awk. In doing so the course covers the use of editors such as Emacs and vi with which the students can write their scripts.
It is presented in 3 formats:
* Screencast (video of the lecturer and presentation slides)
* Au
Dog examination techniques
This presentation has been developed to introduce veterinary students to the process of carrying out a systematic physical examination in canine patients. It is designed to act as an introduction to these processes and procedures only, giving the students a framework from which to work as they develop and refine these skills throughout the veterinary course.
Physical examination is a key skill which will be used throughout a veterinary surgeon's career and is a key determinant in selecting diag

Extended architecture of knowledge management system with Web 2.0 technologies
Knowledge management systems (KMS) become increasingly important in periods of crises and
economic slowdown, as many organizations are forced to lay off people, to reduce research and ICT
budgets, to restructure departments and to optimize their costs. Subsequently, organizational knowledge
assets, and mainly the existing tacit knowledge are threatened. This raises the importance of
technologies that could assist organizational efforts to capture the existing knowledge and to mobilize it in

Participatory design in open education: a workshop model for developing a pattern language
Technologically enhanced learning environments raise complex challenges for their designers, developers and users. Design patterns and pattern languages have recently emerged as a potential framework for addressing some of these challenges. However, the uptake of design patterns has been slow outside of the computer science community. We argue that this is largely a consequence of a weak positioning of pattern languages, as a form of delivering expert knowledge to layperson, and suggest an alter

These days, special emphasis has been put on the importance of the ICT competencies in the teacher training. The most effective way of developing these competences is to integrate well the proper technologies into education. In our Institutions we have used the Moodle Learning Management System for years. This presentation points out the potentialities of Moodle including other open source and web based learning applications.
The methodical approach to e-portfolio content formation
The paper develops a methodical approach to e-portfolio content formation. It includes several positions: application e-portfolio for different usersÂ’ category; substantiation of criteria for e-portfolio formations; design of curriculum and materials structure, which adequate to criteria set; developing complex project for realizing practical competences.
MOSEP – More Self-Esteem With My E-Portfolio
Development of a Train-the-Trainer Course for E-Portfo
This paper gives an insight into the MOSEP project, funded by the European Commission (Leonardo da Vinci Programme). The project focuses on the high dropout rates amongst young students (14-16) in the transition phase from middle to upper secondary school or into first vocational education. MOSEP addresses this problem by proposing to introduce the method of electronic learning and development portfolios (e-portfolios) specifically designed for effectively teaching and consulting this difficult
Web-based course design on the basis of eduWeaver and advancements
EduWeaver is a courseware tool that should enable instructors to create digital learning objects, which are conform to didactical standards, and to eventually combine them to a whole course. The course structure of course models, which were designed in eduWeaver, is hierarchically classified into four different layers. Via the export functionality in eduWeaver that relies on current standards, the course can be used in diverse learning management systems or within another environment as e.g. HTM
Evaluate the interactive and reusable service in adaptive on demand applications
In this paper, the researcher based on the open platforms and tools for personalized learning idea, with the “ Interactive & reusable” function in UI design model, directly dealing with Knowledge on demand (KOD) service from the aspect-oriented and object-oriented issue. Moreover, to propose the KOD combine with VOD (Video on Demand); AOD (Audio on Demand); COD (Course on Demand) and IOD (Information on Demand in Global index searching) in diversity of hypermedia metadata.
CAS for Mathematics E-Learning - a European Perspective
We report on activities and progress in a European (Comenius 2.1) project "LTMLearning Tools for Mathematics" that creates multilingual learning units on the basis of Mathematica and M@th Desktop. A customized user-interface based on palettes is optimized for use in class, and notebooks provide associated math content with a strong emphasis on visualization. The multilingual nature of the learning units makes them useful for transnational school collaboration projects, as has been demonstrated i
