Science Bulletins: New Stem Cell Method Shows Promise
The University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers who turned ordinary skin cells into stem cells in 2007 have cleared a major safety concern of using those cells in research: their risk of cancer. Their previous process used a virus to insert several genes into the DNA of skin cells. The genetic code of these genes naturally reprograms cells to revert to their original stem cell state. There was just one problem—the new stem cells were cancer-prone.
The team's new method uses a different vehicl

After hovering in one spot for a bit, she moved in close and started clawing away at the webs, apparently to get at or drive away the small "Daddy Longlegs" spider (Pholcus phalangioides) which was lu

These aren't your average sweet little birdies! Both male and female hummingbirds of some species are quite aggressive, territorial, and vigorously defend their food sources against intruders. While those long, sharp bills may look like formidable stabbing weapons, the birds' head, neck and body weight just don't pack enough strength or mass to do much damage, so fights typically involve only mild biting and poking with the bill, and grabbing with the feet as well - not even with enoug

Aliens in my Orchids - Timelapse Strange Earth Lifeforms
Sometimes, we can find the strangest forms of life right here on Earth, without any Sci-Fi extra-terrestrial magic! While making these time-lapsed image sequences of Phalenopsis Orchids (also called "Moth" Orchids), I was surprised to see what looked like a little face staring out at me from inside the blossom as it opened! It was an odd-shaped, almost bird-like face with two large alien-looking eyes. Students will enjoy these beautiful, real life images. This is a great resource to help build b
