We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist... using technologies that haven't yet b
Area
Learn that area is a measure of how much surface is covered. Explore
the relationship between the size of the unit used and the resulting
measurement. Find the area of irregular shapes by counting squares or
subdividing the figure into sections. Learn how to approximate the area
more accurately by using smaller and smaller units. Relate this
counting approach to the standard area formulas for triangles,
trapezoids, and parallelograms.
Volume
Explore several methods for finding the volume of objects, using both
standard cubic units and non-standard measures. Explore how volume formulas for solid objects such as spheres, cylinders, and cones are derived and related.
Introduction to Fractions
This short video is from Jimmy Chang, who has a master's degree in math and has been a math teacher at St. Pete College for more than eight years. How to introduce fractions. Â Fractions are comparisons. Mr. Chang suggests using food and money examples for the introduction. Â (2:18)
Fractions and Decimals
Extend your understanding of fractions and decimals. Examine
terminating and non-terminating decimals. Explore ways to predict the
number of decimal places in a terminating decimal and the period of a
non-terminating decimal. Examine which fractions terminate and which
repeat as decimals, and why all rational numbers must fall into one of
these categories. Explore methods to convert decimals to fractions and
vice versa. Use benchmarks and intuitive methods to
Steps to Multiply Big Numbers Using the Standard Method
This video goes step by step though a standard method to multiply a 3 digit number by a 2 digit number. Examples are shown of step by step process for solving multiplication of multi-digit numbers.
Introduction to Rotation
This video provides and introduction to rotation. This is a quick and easy lesson but provides an important introduction to rotation.
Introduction to Frequency Tables
A brief introduction to the use of Frequency Tables. Definitions of statistics, data, and frequency table are discussed.
Statistics - Relative Frequency Histogram
The relative frequency histogram is one of the standard ways for statisticians to present data. As a skeleton for the distribution curve, learn how to divide data into intervals, set boundaries, recognize outliers, figure out the range, and interpret frequency histograms.(01:28)
45-45-90 Triangles Video uses an electronic black board with different colored pens. Introduction to 45-45-90 Triangles, these can also be called right triangles because of the 90 degree measurement. These triangles are special because if two angles of a triangle are equal the one side they don’t share is going to be equal. This then goes on to explain Pythagorean Theorem, Side A squared + Side B squared = Side C squared, side C is t
Similar Triangles
Introduction to similar triangles. The instructor uses his computer (appears to be the Paint program) to communicate with the viewer. He uses different colors to aid in comprehension. For middle school students and older.
ABC's and Phonics with Puppy Dog
Strong visuals, letter repetition, and a comprehensive review teach children the alphabet.  Live action of children singing and dancing while the traditional ABC song is sung. At 4 minutes and 25 seconds, simple objects are introduced for the letter "A." Snippet ends there.  Video introduction is nearly 2 minutes long.  (5:03)
Graphing Linear Inequalities from Standard Form
Instructor uses power point to demonstrate how to graph linear inequalities in standard form. Â Examples model finding the x- and y-intercepts, drawing a line through the two intercepts and forming a boundary line. The instructor then discusses whether the boundary line is dashed or solid and which way to shade the inequality, above or below the boundary line.
