These letters show how Susan Brown was able to secure the release of her brother, Henry McLaughlin, from prison at Johnson Island near Sandusky, Ohio. Susan receives a letter from E. A. Sconill at the prison where her brother is being held stating that Henry wishes to take the oath of allegiance but that Sconill does not have the authority to release him.
