Setting Out a Podium
This lesson covers the introduction and concept of setting out a plan for the construction of a podium used to award prizes in a dog trial. Setouts are a measuring and marking guide, used when producing one or more units. Setouts save wasting materials by ensuring that the components are cut to size and fit together correctly. Setouts also ensure that standard units produced by an organisation are of consistent quality.

Interpret an engineering drawing
There is not a lot of space on a drawing so symbols and abbreviations are used instead of text. To find the meaning of a symbol or abbreviation, use the Australian Standard AS 1100.101-1992. It defines the general principles for technical drawing and shows tables of symbols and abbreviations and their meanings. Lines on a drawing also must conform to rules, eg, for visible outlines, hidden outlines, and dimension lines.
Identify welding symbols used in engineering drawings
Basic welding symbols communicate information about the type, size and position of welds in welded joints. Welding symbols are used to reduce the number of words on an engineering drawing. Welding symbols are drawn to Australian Standard AS 1101 Part 3. The symbols are universal so they are the same all around the world.
