Born October 7th, 1952 in what is now St. Petersburg, Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin joined the Russian intelligence agency known as the KGB upon his graduation from university. After his time as a spy, he began his rise to political prominence as part of Leningrad mayor Anatoly Sobchak’s government.
