Extreme ultraviolet variability experiment (EUVE)
The Extreme ultraviolet Variability Experiment (EVE), part of the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) mission, was launched on 11 February 2010. EVE is one of three instrument suites on the SDO and will measure "Solar extreme ultraviolet (EUV) irradiance with unprecedented spectral resolution, temporal cadence, accuracy, and precision". The EVE program "will incorporate physics-based models of the Solar EUV irradiance to advance the understanding of Solar EUV irradiance variations based on the
Making sense of statistics
"Making Sense of Statistics" is a guide for the general public aimed at enabling them to evaluate claims that are made using statistics. The guide considers types of questions which statistics answer, common pitfalls in using statistics, statistical significance, and absolute and relative changes. Links to related websites and books about statistics are listed. A separate short guide entitled "Making Sense of Statistics in an Election" is also available. The guides are published by Sense About S
UNICEF : statistics and monitoring
As part of its work, UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, collects and analyses data on women and children worldwide. It conducts the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS). It is also responsible for the global monitoring of the child-related Millennium Development Goals (MDG). This website provides country statistics, a tool for generating customised statistical tables, core indicators and details of MDG monitoring. The website is available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Chi

Menu costs at work : restaurant prices and the introduction of the Euro
This paper on menu costs by Bart Hobijn, Federico Ravenna and Andrea Tambalotti was originally published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Volume 121, August 2006. "Restaurant prices in the euro area increased dramatically after the introduction of the euro. We argue that this increase can be explained by a common model of menu cost pricing, extended to include the state-dependent decision of firms on when to adopt the new currency. Two mechanisms drive this result. First, firms concentrate

An introduction to science investigations: student teachers learning to work on process skills with
This is a paper presented at the British Educational Research Association Annual Conference, at the University of Warwick on the 6-9 September 2006. This paper seeks to establish if previous qualifications in science impact on student teachers’ confidence and ability to manage science investigations. It also evaluates the effects of the students’ college course on their confidence.
NASA CONNECT Functions and Statistics: Dressed for Space
In NASA CONNECT Dressed for Space, students learn about the suits astronauts wear in space and why sizing is critical for working in space. They learn how the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space suits were developed. Building on past space suit technologies, NASA engineers and researchers use functions and statistics to create the next generation of space suits for the International Space Station and beyond.
