Quick take on math starters
If you want to hook your class on math right from the start, you may want to consider one of these real-world projects. Students deal with real data in these investigations collecting, presenting, and analyzing their findings. As they work on the NCTM Data Analysis and Probability Standard, they apply school mathematics in contexts arising outside of mathematics, as recommended in the Connections Standard.
Atmosphere
What is this atmosphere that surrounds the Earth? This instructional tutorial, part of an interactive laboratory series for grades 8-12, introduces students to the structure, effects, and components of the atmosphere. Here students investigate the composition of the atmosphere; effects of temperature, pressure, and ozone; the greenhouse effect; and how Earth compares with other planets. Interactive activities present students with opportunities to explore ideas and answer questions about the atm
TheSilver Mile
Middle School, difficulty level 3. Determine the total value of the coins in a silver mile.
1 Modelling static problems
This unit lays the foundation of the subject of mechanics. Mechanics is concerned with how and why objects stay put, and how and why they move. In particular, this unit - Modelling Static Problems - considers why objects stay put. And it assumes that you have a good working knowledge of vectors.
What Is an Electoral College for Presidential Elections?
The electoral college for presidential elections is a body of electors that makes the final decision on who will be elected president based on how the population in the state votes. This two minute video explains how the number of electors for each state is based on the number of congress members for that state. Provides an adequate explanation, but does not explain how the slate of electoral college voters is selected in each state.

Analytical Electrochemistry: Potentiometry
This courseware module is structured for either a lecture presentation or self-study tutorial on analytical potentiometry. The level of presentation spans upper high school to college students. Topics include historical background, theory/principles, instrumentation, pH electrodes, experimental examples, and troubleshooting tips.
Atomic Structure and the Periodic Chart
Online eText gives a thorough descriptive overview of atomic structure. The site is organized into sections on light particles and waves, the Bohr atom, the quantum atom, atomic electron configuration, and periodic properties. Hyperlinks to interactive demonstrations of physiochemical principals with questions posed are included. At the end of each section, flowcharts, called \"concept maps\" guide the students from basic principles to working concepts.
Accumulated Rainfall during Hurricanes Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne, 2004 (WMS)
During the hurricane season of 2004, an unprecedented four hurricanes hit Florida. This animation shows the accumulated rainfall produced by three of those hurricanes during the month of September. The animation also shows the rainfall from the typhoons in the Pacific Ocean during the same period.

4.3 Photosynthesis, respiration and decay
Energy resources are essential for any society, be it one dependent on subsistence farming or an industrialised country. There are many different sources of energy, some well-known such as coal or petroleum, others less so, such as tides or the heat inside the Earth. Is nuclear power a salvation or a nightmare? This unit provides background information to each resource, so that you can assess them for yourself.

Forces and Graphing
This activity can be used to explore forces acting on an object, to practice graphing experimental data, and/or to introduce the algebra concepts of slope and intercept of a line. A wooden 2x4 beam is set on top of two scales. Students learn how to conduct an experiment by applying loads at different locations along the beam, recording the exact position of the applied load and the reaction forces measured by the scales at each end of the beam. In addition, students will analyze the experiment d
