Using the Doppler Effect for Motion Sensing, Browser Scrolling...

What's also cool is that this is all driven via JavaScript...

This documentary describes the situation of one of the most discussed minorities in Kazakhstan, the Uyghurs. This documentary describes the situation of one of the most discussed minorities in Kazakhstan, the Uyghurs. Uyghurs account for just 1.53% of the Kazakh population. However, due to the relation between Uyghurs and China and internal Kazakh policies towards non-Kazakh nationalities, this minority constitutes a very delicate issue for the political leadership of Kazakhstan. The typical ima

Cooperative Concurrency for a Multicore World
Multi-threaded programs are notoriously prone to unintended interference between concurrent threads. To address this problem, these lecture presenters argue that yield annotations in the source code should document all thread interference, and they present a type system for verifying the absence of undocumented interference. Well-typed programs behave as if context switches occur only at yield annotations. Thus, they can be understood using intuitive sequential reasoning, except where yield anno

Introduction

This unit considers four ways in which some social scientists have claimed that there might be a ‘new economy’ coming in to being: the switch from manufacturing to services, globalisation, new technology and flexible labour markets. The good and bad points of economic change, its benefits and costs, are discussed. For example, what does it mean for people trying desparately to balnace the urgent demands of work and life?

This unit is an adapted extract from the course

4.1 Whole numbers

If you add, subtract or multiply whole numbers, you always end up with a whole number. But division is different. One whole number may not ‘go into’ another exactly. There may be something left over.

For example if you have 6 biscuits to divide between 4 people, each person can have one biscuit each and 2 are left over. In division, the 2 left over are called the remainder. This is expressed as:

  • 6 ÷ 4 = 1, remainder 2
