Pachelbel Canon in D Major
This is an audio recording of Pachelbel's "Canon in D Major" with a picture of Pachelbel as the backdrop. It was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue in the same key. THis cannon has a basso continuo playing an independent part.  The three top parts enter one by one playing the exact same part-beautifully layered.  This piece is often used in commercials as well as weddings.

Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor
Rachmaninov composed it following a period of deep depression during which he questioned whether he could ever compose again.  Response to his First Symphony - after it was initially performed in St. Petersburg - was extremely negative, sending Sergei Vasilievich into a tailspin.

A brilliant pianist with a famously wide hand span, he began to think performing in concert (or conducting) might be a better career path for him.  Deeply unsettled, he began drinking too much alcohol.Â
