Students explore building a pyramid, learning about the simple machine called an inclined plane. ESD.69 Seminar on Health Care Systems Innovation (MIT)
This seminar applies a systems perspective to understand health care delivery today, its stakeholders and problems as well as opportunities. Students are introduced to the 'systems perspective' that has been used successfully in other industries, and will address the introduction of new processes, technologies and strategies to improve overall health outcomes. Students are assigned to teams to work on a semester‐long group project, in collaboration with staff of a nearby Boston hospital.
How Mountains are Formed
Students investigate how mountains are formed. Concepts include the composition and structure of the Earth's tectonic plates and tectonic plate boundaries, with an emphasis on plate convergence as it relates to mountain formation. Students learn that geotechnical engineers design technologies to measure movement of tectonic plates and mountain formation, as well as design to alter the mountain environment to create safe and dependable roadways and tunnels.

Tracheid Length Measurement in Selected Conifer Species
This exercise illustrates the techniques for macerating wood and staining, mounting, and measuring tracheids. Mean tracheid length is different in different species of conifers; therefore, this laboratory can be expanded into a larger scale comparative measurement exercise.
