Levers that Lift
This lesson introduces students to three of the six simple machines used by many engineers: the lever, the pulley, and the wheel-and-axle. In general, engineers use the lever to magnify the force applied to an object, the pulley to lift heavy loads over a vertical path, and the wheel-and-axle to magnify the torque applied to an object. The mechanical advantage of these machines helps determine their ability to make work easier or make work faster.

This course is intended as an overview of psychopathology, the study of maladaptive or abnormal behavior. Issues of definition, historical and scientific trends, current paradigms, assessment and diagnosis, and research methods will be addressed. Additional focus will be spent examining the major types of abnormal behavior in the context of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV). Additionally, abnormal behavior will be examined through the lens of culture, race/ethnic
