"Electromagnetic Fields and Energy, Spring 2008"
"Published in 1989 by Prentice-Hall, this book is a useful resource for educators and self-learners alike. The text is aimed at those who have seen Maxwell's equations in integral and differential form and who have been exposed to some integral theorems and differential operators. A hypertext version of this textbook can be found here. An accompanying set of video demonstrations is available below. These video demonstrations convey electromagnetism concepts. The demonstrations are related to top
Learn About Lines, Rays and Planes
This is a short, thirty minute clip that is part of a much larger tutorial. In this Geometry section, the viewer will learn about the basics of geometry and cover lines, rays and planes in geometrical problems. NOTE: The sound quality is not the best.

2.2 Mental models: implicit and explicit We all have mental models of the world in which we live. We have mental models of ‘how X will react if I ask her to do a particular job’, of what would be ‘a nice holiday’, ‘what should happen if I turn up the thermostat on this heater’ and so on. Virtually all these models are so taken-for-granted that we do not even realise that they are models, i.e. that they are simplifications of the complexity around us. The significance of these implicit mental models is that
6.1.2 When is a pie chart not a good format to use?
Your course might not include any maths or technical content but, at some point during your studies, it’s likely that you’ll come across information represented in charts, graphs and tables. You’ll be expected to know how to interpret this information, and possibly encouraged to present your own findings in this way. This unit will help you to develop the skills you need to do this, and gain the confidence to use them. This unit can be used in conjunction with, and builds on the ‘Working
The Struggle for Existence: Competition Between Bacterial Strains
Two strains of Escherichia coli are grown in broth and plated out at intervals. A population growth curve is plotted for each strain. The two strains are then grown together for several days in different types of broth. Students from each day's laboratory plate out the mixed culture on selective media. Data are pooled. Population curves are plotted for the two strains in competition. With different conditions, it is possible to observe competitive displacement of one strain by another.
Limpet showing foot
The intertidal zone is subject to intense wave forces and the muscular foot allows limpets to tightly grasp the rocks.
The Torch or The Firehose: A Guide to Section Teaching, Spring 2009"
In a new podcast Tim Ambler considers the importance of boards discussing marketing before all else, and suggests that marketing shouldn't always be the first cut made in a recession

The Torch or The Firehose: A Guide to Section Teaching, by MIT Mathematics Professor Arthur Mattuck, is a guide to recitation teaching at MIT. During a typical recitation section, a teaching assistant (TA) meets with a small group of students to review the most recent lecture, expand on the concepts, work through practice problems, and conduct a discussion with the students. With good humor and sound advice, Professor Mattuck offers both novice and seasoned recitation instructors guidelines on h
