And so today I am delighted to be able to present this, the 70th George E. Morrison Lecture. George Morrison was a man surrounded by controversy. But no-one, not even his greatest detractors, could deny his deep knowledge of China and his fascination with this ancient and continuing civilisation. Morrison was one of a kind.
