1 Springs
Water is arguably the most important physical resource as it is the one that is essential to human survival. Understanding the global water cycle and how we use water is essential to planning a sustainable source of water for the future. In the UK there area areas where water supplies are limited, shown by recent droughts. Globally, there are many areas that do not have enought water to support the currently population adequately. Decisions will have to be made on the best way to use water in a
Colonial Kids
Growing up colonial meant babies in crash helmets and boys in dresses. Program developer Kristin Spivey compares childhood now and then.
5.2 The Traditional Analysis of Knowledge
Part 5.2. Explores the idea of conscious and unconscious knowledge (should a person know that they know something or does it not matter?) and the theory of justification of propositions and beliefs.
Pharmaceuticals Management for Under-served Populations
Students will be guided to analyze problems and develop strategies based on real world drug management issues including regulations, manufacture, procurement, distribution, safety, policy, financing and the unique aspects of international pharmaceutical trade, the role of the World Trade Organization - Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (WTO-TRIPS), government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals/programs in the selection and use of pharmaceutical products. C
Principles of Industrial Hygiene
Principles of Industrial Hygiene provides an introduction to the field of industrial hygiene and to occupational health in general. The instructor focuses on introducing concepts, terminology, and methodology in the practice of industrial hygiene and identifies resource materials. The class would benefit those wishing to pursue a Master's degree in industrial hygiene, those wishing to complete a certificate in occupational health, or for students in allied health fields needing a basic understan
Music-ITE: Learning how to Teach Singing in the Primary School
This module on the Music-ITE website has been designed to support the teaching of singing by tutors with some understanding of how to set about the task. The activities and materials have been designed to provide a sensitive approach to getting students singing. There is an attempt to identify free resources which could support students’ work in schools, and there is an opportunity for critical reflection on current initiatives in primary singing.
A Study of Gene Linkage and Mapping Using Tetrad Analysis in the Fungus Sordaria fimicola
This laboratory focuses on some aspects of spore color determination in the fungus Sordaria fimicola. Tetrad analysis of asci from a cross between strains mutant for two spore color genes is used to determine if the genes are linked and to map the location of each gene relative to the centromere. This laboratory is logistically simple and inexpensive, the data are relatively easy to collect, and the analysis facilitates a good understanding of meiosis and Mendel's principles of inheritance. Alte
Aquatic Food Web Interactions: Microcosms as Lake Models
A laboratory exercise for increasing knowledge of trophic cascades in aquatic ecosystems has led to a better understanding of several basic ecological tenets, including competition, predation, and a variety of other community-level food web interactions using microcosms from whole water plankton collections.
Applying the Learning Cycle Approach to Digestive Systems and the Principles of Structure-Function a
The three parts of the learning-cycle strategy student exploration, concept formation, and concept application are the framework on which student understanding of 1 the interrelation of structure and function and 2 the coexistence of unity and the diversity among organisms are designed.
Blow, Crack, and Rage
Through a close reading of King Lear 3.2, students will explore both Lear's language and the effect of subsequent editorial intervention. Focusing specifically on punctuation within the King's famous "Blow winds" speech, students will learn to what degree punctuation affects one's understanding of the language and performance choices.
Museum Program Allows Students To Visit For Free
PULLMAN, Wash.— Dots, lines, and colorful artwork are now on display at the Washington State University Museum of Art. The exhibit featuring Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art is free to enjoy, but getting to Pullman can be a daunting task for some future artists. That's where a unique program set up by the Museum of Art comes into play. The Buy-a-Busload-of-Kids offers transportation funding to K-12 school classes within a 100-mile radius to take field trips to WSU and the Museum of Art.
Absolutely Addition
Here are some fun games and activities to help with understanding and using addition.
Digitizing Heritage or reconstructing Imagination [Digitalizando la herencia o reconstruyendo la ima
To advance the theme of digital conservation of heritage and tie it to museums, we report on two case studies of digitising archaeological sites; the first is the remains of a typical Scottish Crannog typical of the sixth-century BC., and the second is a UNESCO protected site in the Middle East (the desert castle of Qusayr Amra, Jordan), which dates back to early 8th century. Then we relate both to our investigation into embodiment, interaction and metaphor in virtual environments.
What About Weather?
What would happen if you woke up this morning thinking it was going to be an ordinary day, but you looked outside and the weather was going crazy. The clouds were changing quickly and causing rain, hail, snow, and sleet. Lightning was striking all around your house. The sun was shinning one minute and the next minute it was dark as if it was the middle of the night because of the dark clouds. Hurricanes and tornadoes were being seen in places that have never seen them before. What would you do a
Science in Focus: Energy Workshop 2: Force and Work
Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. In this session, see how work is defined in physics and examine how energy and work are related.,Interviews with everyday people on the street and scientists explore the scientific meaning of work and its relationship to energy.
8 A new life
This unit looks at the human being in the context of an individual life cycle, examining some of the processes that contribute to the formation of a new person. After a brief discussion of historical ideas about human conception, and about contraception to the present day, we look at the cells involved in the conception and development of a new individual. Gamete production (that is, production of mature cells able to unite with another in sexual reproduction) in both men and women is introduced
