Samuel Gompers and the AFL-CIO
This 42 minute long video is about the life of Samuel Gompers and his impact on public policy and our society. Mr. Gompers was one of the earliest labor leaders with the AFL-CIO and is considered the father of the modern labor movement. This is done as an interview. The first three minutes of the video are a commercial for other videos. This is an excellent video to tell how the union movement started and why and its battle for worker's rights and the eight-hour day.

Gordon Brown gives a lecture about this topic. A good insight into the part religion played in the early part of America as the people were religious and how various groups grew. However, some major leaders were not religious. Well worth watching.

The video opens the way for some excellent discussions including what an eye for an eye means and also do all people have the same punishment based on their social rank.
