Comparative study of bovine heart and bacillus subtilis cytochrome c oxidase vesicles and the influe
Studies on the steady state behavior of soluble cytochrome c oxidase are extensive. These studies have examined the influence of ionic strength and pH and may provide answers to questions such as the link between proton translocation and charge separation. The present study examined the influence of external bulk pH on ApH formation, biphasic kinetics, and steady state reduction of cytochromes c and a of cytochrome c oxidase in proteoliposomes. Bulk pH has an appreciable effect on ApH formation

Caseflow management and the politics of professionalism : lawyers and independent paralegals

Brillouin spectroscopy : measurement of elastic and photoelastic constants of some alkali holide cry
The assembly and testing of apparatus for the measurement of elastic and photoelastic constants by Brillouin scattering, using a Fabry-Perot interferometer and with argon ion laser excitation is described. Such measurements are performed on NaCI, KBr and LiF using the A = 488.0 nm laser line. The elastic constants obtained here are in very good agreement with the ultrasonic data for all three materials. The discrepancy between ultrasonic and hypersonic sound velocities which was reported by some

A relationship between photosynthesis and translocation in plants stressed by ionizing radiation
Since previous investigations have shown that low levels of ionizing radiation can induce a reduction in the rates of apparent photosynthesis and in the magnitude of photoassimilated l4C exported out of a leaf, the present studies were designed and conducted to determine the relationship, if any, between the radiation effects on these two physiological processes. The experiments were particularly designed to determine if the radiation-induced reduction in export is the result of the reduction in

1,1-enediamines and β-substituted enamines in heterocyclic synthesis
The work in this thesis mainly deals with l,l-enediamines and ~ -substituted enamines (push-pull olefines) and their reactions, leading to the formation of a number of heterocycles. Various ~-substituted enamines were prepared by a 'one pot synthesis' in which a l,l-enediamine presumably acts as an intermediate. These enamines, various substituted crotonamides and propenamides, were made by using two different orthoesters, various secondary and primary amines and cyanoacetamide. Their structures

ENGL 121-03-04, Critical Thinking and Writing, Spring 2007
English 151 begins with the idea that writing is a process that includes planning, drafting, and revising. By revising, I don't mean proofreading or polishing. While catching typos and choosing a different word here and there are part of the writing process, revising a paper means re-thinking it, even changing your argument and coming to new conclusions. Writing diafts and revising them makes writing a tool for thinking. As you write, you generate ideas and test their conclusions. As the English
