Embedding Design Patterns in a Methodology for a Design Science of e-Learning The discourse of research and practice in e-learning has been dominated by two extremes. On one hand, ethereal abstractions, which provide sound principles but do not lend themselves to implementation. On the other hand, detailed anecdotes which provide fascinating insights but pose a challenge to generalization. The void in between these two extremes calls for representations which capture transferable and modular elements of design knowledge.

Workshop White Paper - Education in the Wild: contextual and location-based mobile learning in actio The workshop explored recent innovations into location-based, or geospatially-informed, contextual mobile learning, and issues arising from them. Location-based technologies offer opportunities for new forms of learning that engage more deeply with physical surroundings and support continuity of understanding across settings; they also pose technical difficulties of modelling and maintaining continuity of context, and ethical challenges including the right to privacy of location and escape from Author(s): Brown Elizabeth J,Sharples Mike
Преглед на технологични решения за управление на знан The present paper focuses on a new managerial discipline emerging in the last few years of the 20th century. At the beginning are introduced some basic concepts used in the theory and practice of Knowledge Management, and are presented the benefits for utilization of Knowledge management. The main emphasis of the paper is on the technological solutions applied in the organizations at different stages of the knowledge management life cycle, whereas a summary is made of the types of technologies d Author(s): Antonova Albena,Gourova Elissaveta,Nikolov Roumen
Towards University 2.0: A Space where Academic
Education Meets Corporate Training The paper analyses the need of an institutional change of the universities in order to adapt to the
current requirements of networked and knowledge economy. The e-Learning phenomenon and the ICT
driven global educational reform are analysed as well in parallel with the needs of implementing new
pedagogy models. Some university models are briefly described, such as: Research University,
Enterpreneurial University, eUniversity and Corporate University. The paper puts its attention also on

Some Methodological Aspects of the Development of an ICT Research and Technology
Development and Inn The aim of this paper is to share the experience gained at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics
(FMI), Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski (SU), in the up to now work within the scope of a project
funded by the Capacities Specific Programme of FP7. At the first call for proposals of this Programme in
2007 the EC provided a grant to the project SISTER of SU, aimed at strengthening the research capacity

Organization and Usage of Learning Objects within Personal Computers To promote the integration of Desktop related Knowledge Management and Technology Enhanced Learning this deliverable aims at increasing the awareness of Desktop research within the Professional Learning community and at familiarizing the e-Learning researchers with the state-of-the-art in the relevant areas of Personal Information Management (PIM), as well as with the currently on-going activities and some of the regular PIM publication venues.,Research report of the ProLearn Network of Excellen Author(s): Chirita Paul-Alexandru,Bischoff Kerstin,Wolpers Ma
Intelligent Agents for Distance Learning Distance learning involves a lot of work of human assistants. These assistants need to be connected for answering student doubts and questions. Intelligent agents can do part of this repetitive work because they can observe students interacting with educational courses, detect learning troubles of these students, and then suggest them some way for overcoming those troubles. However, a design problem appears with this promised possibility: how to connect educational applications with these agents Author(s): Amandi Analia,Campo Marcelo,Armentano Marcelo,Berd
The Cognitive Transfer and the Tutor's Role in a CBL Environment In this paper we report on a longitudinal study of a Leonardo da Vinci program regarding the application of a Computer Based Learning environment in three EU countries, Greece, Germany, and Holland. The `` Orestis''CD-ROM was a multimedia CBL environment aimed at teaching young offenders the basic and advanced skills for the use and maintenance of a photo-copy shop. The complete project consisted of three phases: construction of the CD-ROM, application of the instructional methodology in the par Author(s): Karoulis Athanasios,Pombortsis Andreas
Investigation of Q-Learning in the Context of a Virtual Learning Environment We investigate the possibility to apply a known machine learning algorithm of Q-learning in the domain of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is important in this problem domain to have algorithms that learn their optimal values in a rather short time expressed in terms of the iteration number. The problem domain is a VLE in which an agent plays a role of the teacher. With time it moves to different states and makes decisions which regarding action to choose for moving from current state to Author(s): Baziukaite Dalia
Future Quality in the Emergent European Higher Education Area Involves the Use of Informatics In this paper an agreed set of standards, procedures and guidelines on quality assurance for the emergent European Higher Education Area is presented. If this set is implemented, the procedures for the recognition of qualifications will be strengthened. The set has been divided in two groups: there are internal and external standards and guidelines. The internals should be implemented by higher education institutions and under their responsibility. The external standards and guidelines should be Author(s): Bilbao Javier,Bravo Eugenio,Garcia Olatz,Varela Co
First version of the awareness-support tool This document reports on the awareness services offered through two tools developed in the context of the PALETTE project (Collaboration services), namely e-Logbook and CoPe_it! We first present the awareness types that need to be supported and we proceed by describing in detail how these are conceived and implemented in the abovementioned tools. Moreover, we briefly report on the integration of these tools, focusing on the additional awareness services resulting from this integration.,First ver Author(s): El Helou Sandy,Man Yu Chui,Madina Amagoia,Tzagarak
Enhancing Collaborative Language Learning in Engineering Education with Team Portfolio This paper describes the development and implementation of learning and teaching experiment to encourage the use of e-portfolio in language learning courses and also the integration of English courses with professional studies of engineering students. This is an ongoing project which is annually developed and improved based on student feedback the focus being on collaborative and communicative language learning. Testing and Assessing Mathematical Skills by a Script Based System Especially in the mathematical education there seems to be a need for strict drill and practice exercises. Such training cannot be met by traditional means. Therefore, a computer program is needed which generates parametrisable questions/problems which the students have to answer/solve and which at the same time assesses the answers/solutions of the students.
We designed such a system as an interface between the learning platform ILIAS and MATLAB/Maple as the symbolic mathematics engine. We dem Author(s): Risse Thomas
