The site was written specifically for those participating is field research but information applies to wilderness camping and classroom field trips. Phases of the Moon
This site contains a series of visualizations of the sun, moon and Earth System and how they relate to the changing face of the moon. Animations are in the form of Java applets, forms for field observation of the moon, and a collection of exercises and PDF versions of background material. There are practice questions and quizzes that discuss the animations.
The Nancy Creek Challenge
The Nancy Creek Challenge is part of the Starting Point module. The Case study requires students to examine fish kill in Nancy Creek and identify the environmental conditions that favor life in a fresh water ecosystem. Students will work in small groups to assess the situation. The group will be allowed to gather resources from various places in an effort to develop a possible solution for the situation. Studying Aquifers in Outcrop
In this field lab, students describe two (or more) different rock types in outcrop, with an emphasis on the hydrogeologic properties of the rocks. Students are asked to draw sketches, take notes and ask questions about the how water may move through a rock unit . This website describes the learning goals and context use of the lab, and provides an equipment list, teaching notes and materials, a recommended method of assessment, and links to useful references and resources.
The Tofte Project
This site provides a description of a cabin in Tofte, MN on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The new owner of the cabin decided to remake it into a model of sustainable building practices. The site includes several dozen flash animations looking at sustainability from many angles as well as the specifics of the house and its surroundings.

Unraveling Intolerance
The purpose of this lesson is to encourage students to examine the issue of tolerance in our culture. The students will view the film Turbans, which focuses on a Sikh family's immigration to Oregon in the early 1900s. They will relate the issues in the film to problems facing Sikh, Arab and Muslim populations living in the United States in the post-September 11 environment.

This lesson focuses on the drafting of the United States Constitution during the Federal Convention of 1787 in Philadelphia. Students will analyze an unidentified historical document and draw conclusions about what this document was for, who created it, and why. After the document is identified as George Washington’s annotated copy of the Committee of Style’s draft constitution, students will compare its text to that of an earlier draft by the Committee of Detail to understand the evolution
Southern Mosaic: The John and Ruby Lomax 1939 Southern States Recording Trip
This is a field collection of 700 sound recordings, field notes, dust jackets, and other manuscripts documenting a three-month, 6,502-mile trip through the southern U.S. The recordings include ballads, blues, children's songs, cowboy songs, fiddle tunes, field hollers, lullabies, play-party songs, religious dramas, spirituals, and work songs.
