Researching Descriptive Models of Design
This special double issue is a result of the international symposium and workshop on ?Descriptive Models of Design? wich was held during July 1-5, 1996, at Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey. The primary goal of the symposium was to promote greater understanding and to develop recommendations for funding policy and practices in the area of descriptive models of design.
Computer animation for architectural visualisation
This thesis critically reviews the state of architectural animation, and relates this specific field to the more general motion-based representations, particularly traditional film-making techniques. It identifies key elements from traditional filmmaking and shows how these elements can improve computer-based architectural animation. The process of identification of the key elements from traditional film-making starts with a critical survey of the use of motion-based representation in local arch

The didactic activity related to the teaching of Perspective has been revised considering the possibility offered by the computing tools. This review must evaluate the potentialities of concepts and procedures related to the traditional techniques as sources for architectural graphics expression, before suggesting its suppression. It is possible to improve the accuracy and quickness controlling the visualization parameters of three-dimensional models. On the other hand, it is necessary to explor
Alien Earths
This site explores the formation of stars and planets and the quest for a habitable planet. Create a virtual a community of microorganisms. Try to build the perfect solar system. See how planets react with one another, and how some planets help keep our solar system stable. Look at images: see if you can recognize life.
Machinima
In this presentation from the Institute of Film and Television Studies' Ephemeral Media Conference, Hugh Hancock from The Strange Company gives industry insights into the world of Machinima and its role in the world of media ephemerality, and shows examples of his work.

Enhancing oral skills
This is a module framework. It can be viewed online or downloaded as a zip file.
As taught in Autumn Semester 2010.
Enhancing Oral Skills (EOS) is a project aimed to provide French beginners with listening activities available on the University of Nottingham (Ningbo campus) platform WebCT (Virtual Self-Access Centre) for their self-study at the very first stage of their learning.
The activities have been created taking into account the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF

Dr. Cynthia White is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Massey University in New Zealand where one of her research interests is Distance education and online learning. In this talk to the e-learning community at Nottingham, Dr White discusses tools and techniques that help teachers, tutors and managers with traditional teaching backgrounds come to grips with e-learning.
Oyez. Oyez. Oyez.: Supreme Court Resource
The Oyez Project is a multimedia archive devoted to the Supreme Court of the United States and its work. It aims to be a complete and authoritative source for all audio recorded in the Court since the installation of a recording system in October 1955. The Project also provides authoritative information on all justices and offers a virtual reality 'tour' of portions of the Supreme Court building, including the chambers of some of the justices.
Sociología del medio ambiente
La crisis socioambiental y su interpretación sociológica. Ecoutopías: movimentos y pensamientos ecologistas. Desastres socioambientales.
Virtual Laboratories - Contents and Instructions
This file outlines three 'Virtual Laboratories in Molecular and Cell Biology' which can also be downloaded from JorumOpen. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting; Immuno-electron microscopy; Investigating intracellular signalling pathways (direct links are given in the document). It provides guidance on how the laboratories can be used for teaching and also contains instructions for downloading and installation. Read this before installing the laboratories.
Преглед на технологични решения за управление на знан
The present paper focuses on a new managerial discipline emerging in the last few years of the 20th century. At the beginning are introduced some basic concepts used in the theory and practice of Knowledge Management, and are presented the benefits for utilization of Knowledge management. The main emphasis of the paper is on the technological solutions applied in the organizations at different stages of the knowledge management life cycle, whereas a summary is made of the types of technologies d
Virtual Analytical Laboratory
Virtual Analytical Laboratory (VAL). A series of animations, video, transcriptions and audiofiles on a number of basic laboratory skills including microscopy, histology, spectrophotometry and microbiology. The VAL website contains all these files, and some of them have been uploaded separately as MPEG4 for mobile use.
Future Quality in the Emergent European Higher Education Area Involves the Use of Informatics
In this paper an agreed set of standards, procedures and guidelines on quality assurance for the emergent European Higher Education Area is presented. If this set is implemented, the procedures for the recognition of qualifications will be strengthened. The set has been divided in two groups: there are internal and external standards and guidelines. The internals should be implemented by higher education institutions and under their responsibility. The external standards and guidelines should be
Testing and Assessing Mathematical Skills by a Script Based System
Especially in the mathematical education there seems to be a need for strict drill and practice exercises. Such training cannot be met by traditional means. Therefore, a computer program is needed which generates parametrisable questions/problems which the students have to answer/solve and which at the same time assesses the answers/solutions of the students.
We designed such a system as an interface between the learning platform ILIAS and MATLAB/Maple as the symbolic mathematics engine. We dem
E-Learning Glossary
The E-Learning Glossary contains over a thousand specialized terms in French and English. These terms designate three sets of conceptual clusters. The first set covers educational practices, such as structure and delivery of knowledge, curriculum design, use of pedagogical tools, learning and teaching strategies. The second set deals with the players, namely learners, teachers, teachersâ aids, service providers, content designers and developers. The third set covers the ways and means by wh
Cooperation scripts for learning via web-based discussion boards and videoconferencing
Computer-supported collaborative learning often means that locally distant learners discuss a task via text-based discussion boards or videoconferencing. Collaborative learning, however, is often suboptimal with respect to how learners work on the concepts that are supposed to be learned and how learners interact with each other. Collaborative learning environments may be improved by scripts that structure epistemic activities and social interactions of learners. Two studies are being reported t
Task and Interaction Regulation in Controlling a Traffic Simulation
In collaborative problem solving, metacognition not only covers strategic reasoning related to the task but also reasoning related to the interaction itself. The hypothesis underlying this work states that regulation of the interaction and regulation of the task are closely related mechanisms and that their co-occurrence facilitates collaborative problem solving. These assumptions are tested experimentally with a traffic simulator. The results show that co-occurrence of task and interaction regu
Embedding email in primary schools: developing a tool for collective reflection
Reflection is an important aspect of learning in groups. In collective moments of reflection, learners can share and compare their ideas with others, and by doing so can reach an articulated and personal understanding of a learning task and domain. In the research presented here, e-mail is examined as a means for reflection in the context of group learning. In two design experiments, an e-mail tool is developed that seeks to (1) support collective reflection, and (2) overcome practical problems
