Introduction to Chemical Equilibria
An equilibrium-oriented web site that presents the concepts of chemical equilibria. It presents notes on general equilibrium topics that include reversible reactions, reaching equilibrium, dynamic equilibrium and factors that can affect equilibria. The explanations are brief, but generally complete. In addition, the site has some self-quiz questions.
Introduction to Chemical Equilibria
An interactive set of applet-based demonstrations (many modeled as experimental measurements) that illustrate the concepts and calculations of chemical equilibria. The site demonstrates equilibrium processes in a reaction vessel by plotting the concentration of reactants and products over time. The site would be a good supplement for a class in general chemistry or quantitative analysis.
Flow Injection Analysis in the Undergraduate Laboratory
This paper titled, Flow Injection Analysis in the Undergraduate Laboratory, by Rocha and Nobrega was published in the Chemical Educator. It describes two basic experiments. One is the measurement of copper using PAR reagent as carrier in a single line FIA system. Increasing the reaction coil length results in double peaks. Refractive index effects are demonstrated in the two-line system by adding ethanol. The second experiment is the measurement of phosphate with the molybdenum blue reaction
The History of Mass Spectrometry
This site provides a brief history of the development of mass spectrometry. The works of Thompson and Aston are presented along with a brief overview of the modern evolution of mass spectrometry. This site will be useful for beginning students interested in a historical overview of the field of mass spectrometry. This is an archived version of the site.
Introduction to Mass Spectrometry
This site contains an on-line text on mass spectrometry at the intermediate level. The text gives good general coverage of mass spectrometry instrumentation and applications in very readable format. It contains nice diagrams that provide a visualization of the ionization and mass selection processes. It also contains an overview of applications of mass spectrometry near the end that is different than most sites related to MS. It is especially appropriate for intermediate students.
CHEM 121 - Quantitative Analysis
Lecture notes, presentations (HTML and PDF), sample exams and their solutions for an introductory quantitative analysis and an instrumental analysis course.
VMSL: Virtual Mass Spectrometry Laboratory
This site presents a series of case studies that can be explored using modern mass spectrometry methods. The problem-solving nature of the site provides students a virtual laboratory experience that can supplement access to mass spectrometry instrumentation.

Phosphorescence lifetime imaging in turbid media
In this dissertation we explore the use of highly scattered photons in an analog of conventional emission tomography. Through this technique we quantitatively reconstruct images of the spatial distribution of oxygen in turbid media. We begin with the mathematical description of diffusive light propagation in highly scattering systems and solve the forward problem. Numerical methods by which the forward problem is inverted are introduced next, enabling quantitative spatial image reconstruction. T
Lexical network size and connectivity in schizophrenia: effects on priming and cued recall
Aberrant semantic associative connectivity may be an underlying characteristic of the cognitive and symptom profile of schizophrenia. Words of varying network size (small or large) and connectivity (high or low) were used in lexical decision and cued recall tasks to test the hypothesis that word processing speed and recall in schizophrenia are modulated by increased activation of associative connectivity. Patients with schizophrenia and controls exhibited increased priming and higher probability
4.7 Ageing brains: hope for the future
This unit looks at two topics that are of immense worldwide social, economic, ethical, and political importance – ‘addiction’ and ‘neural ageing’. You will develop a Master's level approach to the study of specific issues within these two important subject areas.
