Data Driven User Requirements Specification in the UNITE Project
This paper describes the process of user requirements specification in UNITE project. The main goal of the project is to develop an integrated system for authoring and delivery of high quality eLearning activities for the secondary school students. The UNITE system consists of three main components: 1) Software Platform – integrating state of the art learning management systems (LMS), content management systems (CMS), and mobile learning (mLearning) capabilities; 2) Pedagogical Framework – s
Futurelab - Teachers Learning with Digital Technologies: A review of research and projects
If we are interested in changing education, we need more than ever to be interested in teacher education, teacher knowledge and teacher learning. If we want to encourage different approaches to teaching and learning, and new relationships between pupils and teachers, we need to understand the ways in which teachers come to learn, adapt and make such new approaches a reality. This review aims to provide an overview of the research on teacher education, and a roadmap for how this might best be sup
Embedding knowledge in the design of an orthopaedic surgery learning
This paper deals with an ongoing work involving surgeons, didacticians and computer scientists. The objective is to design a computer based environment for learning screw placement in orthopaedic surgery on the basis of a computer assisted surgical (CAS) tool. We describe our methodology to create a didactical plug-in component for the CAS system. The created system will consider the user's knowledge employed for the task to provide linked and relevant feedback.
SALL: Specifying a system to Support Academics' Lifelong Learning
This project focuses on the specification of a system to support academics during the lifelong learning process. The initial data collection involved conducting interviews and a survey amongst academics from several disciplines. The collected data was combined with learning theories to reveal the ways in which technology could support academics. Subsequently, the needs that would be addressed by the proposed system were considered. Accordingly, the guided metaphor of the system was decided to be
A History of the County of Middlesex: Volume 2 General; Ashford, East Bedfont with Hatton, Feltham,
This volume has some general topics for the whole ancient county of Middlesex except the city of Westminster, and articles on 7 parishes. Part of the area now lies within the London Borough of Hounslow, the rest within London boroughs in Surrey
Journal of the House of Lords: volume 14 1685-1691
Covers the period of the accession of James II, the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and the advent of William and Mary.
Sex Battles in the Brain
The expression of certain genes depends on whether they were inherited from the mother or the father, a phenomenon known as imprinting. Catherine Dulac has discovered that a surprisingly large number of brain genes are imprinted, often in complex ways. Her findings have broad implications for understanding the inheritance o
3 Different kinds of thinking
Diagrams, mind-maps, tables, graphs, time lines, flow charts, sequence diagrams, decision trees: all can be used to organise thought. This unit will introduce you to a variety of thinking skills. Asking and answering questions is at the heart of high-quality thinking. Questions naturally arise from the desire to know and learn about things and may be the starting point for a journey of understanding.
2.6 Pressure variations in one place
Whether you're a professional musician, play music with your friends on the weekends or just like to listen to CDs, music technology affects your life. In this unit, you will learn some of the basics of music technology, starting with what sound is, how it is created and how it travels.

Historical Analysis of Building - (Re)Construction in Olivette Park, USA
From 1959 to 1990, East St. Louis, Illinois deteriorated from an ?All-American City? to a national symbol of urban blight. Located on the Mississippi River, the East St. Louis of today faces severe economic, social, and environmental problems. Nearly onequarter of the city?s work force is unemployed and about 40 percent of families are living below the poverty level. But East St. Louis was not always a distressed community. With strong ties to St. Louis and the surrounding region, East St. Louis
Riesce: An Hypertextual Tool for Browsing Information Produced in the Building Sector by PFEd
The structure of a set of documents allow for navigation inside single texts. Yet it is often also an obstacle to comparability between different parts and concepts. Even document formatting is only a partial answer to the problem, since it fails to develop the matter of relationships between enunciation and results. It was need to retrieve information about the scientific findings made by Research Units (Operating Units) during the first three year period of the "Progetto Finalizzato Edilizia"
Semi-automatic control system for hydraulic shovel
A semi-automatic control system for a hydraulic shovel has been developed. Using this system, unskilled operators can operate a hydraulic shovel easily and accurately. A mathematical control model of a hydraulic shovel with a controller was constructed and a control algorithm was developed by simulation. This algorithm was applied to a hydraulic shovel and its effectiveness was evaluated. High control accuracy and high-stability performance were achieved by feedback plus feedforward control, non
ICAtect: Integrating Design Tools for Preliminary Architectural Design
ICAtect is a knowledge based system that provides an interface between expert systems, simulation packages and CAD systems used for preliminary architectural design. This thesis describes its structure and development. The principal work discussed in this thesis involves the formulation of a method for representing a building. This is developed through an examination of a number of design tools used in architectural design, and the ways in which each of these describe a building. Methods of enabli
The Design and Analysis of Computer Algorithms
A text book for a first course in design and analysis of algorithms. The emphasis is on ideas and ease of understanding rather then on implementation details or programming tricks. It starts with formulating several models that include random access register machine, random access stored program machine and variants of these, so one can establish analytical results and at the same time accurately reflect on the salient features of real machines
The B-processor is a redesign of the digital building information modelling/managing concept: Addressing the whole building industry participants and all phases in the building process. Offering a new ?standard? for digital building information structure with generic modelling and evaluation tools in the B-model kernel. Plug-in structure for free extension of the B-processor system by the Building Industry. Kernel prototyped in Java to be downloaded for free ? open source.
