Essential Science for Teachers: Physical Science: Session 2. The Particle Nature of Matter: Solids,
What simple idea links together all of chemistry and physics? How can a close study of the macroscopic differences among solids, liquids, and gases support a microscopic model of tiny, discrete, and constantly moving particles? In this session, participants learn how the "particle model" can be turned into a powerful tool for generating predictions about the behavior of matter under a wide range of conditions.,The segment provides examples of probing questions about phenomenon to determine what
Essential Science for Teachers: Earth and Space Science: Session 1. Earth's Solid Membrane: Soil
How does soil appear on a newly born, barren volcanic island? In this session, participants explore how soil is formed, its role in certain Earth processes, its composition and structure, and its place in the structure of the Earth.,The segment shows the interviewer asking questions about phenomena, set up in different ways, to elicit the student's ideas about the space between particles and whether the number of particles changes. The student is asked to draw pictures and explain her ideas. The
AlgTop18: Classification of combinatorial surfaces II
In this lecture we present the traditional proof of the most important theorem in Algebraic Topology: the classification of (two-dimensional) surfaces using a reduction to a normal or standard form. The main idea is to carefully cut and paste the polygons forming the surface in a particular way, creating either a sphere, or a number of crosscaps or handles.
This is the 18th lecture of this beginner's course in Algebraic Topology, given by N J Wildberger of the School of Mathematics and Statisti
Roly Poly Roundup- (Interactive Game)
Play this interactive game to observe roly-poly locomotion and defensive behavior as the player tries to direct them to their home in the log. The player also see that all living things (even roly-polies!) need shelter, food, and water to live. This game can be used to support the Sid the Science Kid episode, Home Tweet Home.

Sound Puzzle (Interactive Game)
Listen to these sonic "puzzle pieces" and then rearrange them so that they make sense when played in order. Then try to figure out what is making the sound.
ISS Update: The Role of OSO in Dragon's Demo Mission

Science Bulletins: The Final Voyage of Enterprise
Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise was the first of NASA's space shuttles. Its original name, "Constitution", commemorated the United States Bicentennial in 1976, but a campaign led by dedicated fans of the television series "Star Trek" led President Gerald R. Ford to request that NASA change the name to "Enterprise". The shuttle flew eight captive flights on the back of a 747 to evaluate its systems in a flight environment, and five free flights tested its ability to approach a runway and land safely.

2.5 Defining surfaces
Surfaces are a special class of topological spaces that crop up in many places in the world of mathematics. In this unit, you will learn to classify surfaces and will be introduced to such concepts as homeomorphism, orientability, the Euler characteristic and the Classification Theorum.
Introduction Sweatshops and the exploitation of workers are often linked to the globalised production of ‘big brand’ labels. This unit examines how campaigners have successfully closed the distance between the brands and the sweatshops, while others argue that such production ‘kick starts’ economies into growth benefiting whole communities. This unit is an adapted extract from the Open University course Author(s):
Health OER Inter-Institutional Project Formative Evaluation of Health OER Design Phase The review was to be based on a study of relevant documents, interviews with academic staff involved in institutional policy making and OER production, interviews with students who had experienced OERs (in cases where this was possible). Prince William, Kate greet Canadians at barbecue
June 30 - Britain's Prince William and his wife, Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, attend an official barbecue at Rideau Hall in Otawa. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
Introduction The unit uses the example of climate change to highlight the dynamic and volatile character of the planet, and how globalisation links together, in often unequal ways, people and places across the world. The unit focuses on the potentially momentous impact of global environmental change on Pacific Islands like Tuvalu. It introduces students to geographical ways of thinking about the world. This unit is an adapted extract from the Open University course
