The internet provides a world of information, but how do you find what you are looking for? This unit will help you discover the meaning of information quality and teach you how to evaluate the material you come across in your study of technology. You will learn how to plan your searches effectively and be able to experiment with some of the key resources in this area.

7.6 Producing synchroton radiation in a laboratory
Active galaxies provide a prime example of high energy processes operating in the Universe. This unit gives an overview of active galaxies, including the supermassive black holes that power the engines at their centres, and the emission processes by which we detect and study them. It also gives practice in mathematical techniques for analysing data and theoretical models.
The ice mission
The poles are warming up faster than any other region on the planet. Arctic sea ice is both thinning and receding and Antarctic ice shelves are either disintegrating or are at risk of collapse. A recent study suggests human activity is to blame.
Urbamedia - Development of an urban database of fragments of some Argentinian and Latin-American cit
The proposal of "Urbamedia" is to undertake the development of 3D virtual and interactive models of historical areas of Latin-American cities. The selected zone is the "Mayo Avenue" including the "Mayo Square", an historical place of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina; this project is financed by the National Agency of Scientific and Technological Development of Argentina and the University of Buenos Aires. We are presenting the first experimental model of the "Mayo Square" that has been dev
Law School Tour | University of St. Thomas
The University of St. Thomas School of Law has established itself not only as an outstanding law school but also as an exceptional place to be a law student. The School of Law was ranked the No. 1 law school in the country in 2005 for Best Quality of Life among students, according to Princeton Review's The Best 159 Law Schools. While a number of factors contribute to this quality of life at the School of Law, including our beautiful building and remarkable faculty, our students clearly are the b
(R&DA 12) Consistent, effective support, feedback and formal assessment of student teachers on block
This research identified critical issues in efforts to secure consistent, effective, support, feedback and formal assessment of student teachers on block placement. The report demonstrates systematic practices in case study research. Supported by TTA Research and Development Award
Essential Science for Teachers: Physical Science: Session 2. The Particle Nature of Matter: Solids,
What simple idea links together all of chemistry and physics? How can a close study of the macroscopic differences among solids, liquids, and gases support a microscopic model of tiny, discrete, and constantly moving particles? In this session, participants learn how the "particle model" can be turned into a powerful tool for generating predictions about the behavior of matter under a wide range of conditions.,The segment provides examples of probing questions about phenomenon to determine what
To develop as an independent, confident learner you will need to learn the study skills involved in reading articles, taking notes and summarising the information that you have obtained from an article. The unit explores the use of the Web as a resource for keeping up to date, looking in particular at how to assess material available online.

Whether you're a professional musician, play music with your friends on the weekends or just like to listen to CDs, music technology affects your life. In this unit, you will learn some of the basics of music technology, starting with what sound is, how it is created and how it travels.
'Games and learning' is a Furturelab handbook that is readily and freely available as a PDF file. It reports upon the recent and current use of game-based resources. The key findings, that have the most impact upon teacher training, are the recommendations for educators to look beyond the game play to the rationale in terms of learning outcomes, opportunities and motivations. The report acknowledges and celebrates the effective use of computer-based games in a wide range of contexts through case
The overall purpose of this textbook is to survey the major events of modern Chinese and Japanese history. Sometimes this survey takes the form of an old-fashioned, straightforward narrative. Whenever possible, however, the author seeks to examine history through topics that rarely receive much attention in standard textbooks. Furthermore, many of the topics discussed in subsequent chapters shed light on matters of broad significance to the study of human affairs.
This paper describes the experiences of learning and working in groups on the Computer Science studies at Virtual Campus of the Open University of Catalunya. Two communities have used a web based shared workspace tool to a) coordinate the task of tutors of a computer architecture course, and b) a problem based collaborative learning project with software engineering students. These experiences have lead to the design of WWG: a distributed infrastructure for distance learning in groups at Interne
This is a 114 page report of a study, carried out from October 2007 to September 2008, of the Diploma development process for the first 14 Diplomas. Its nine chapters provide a systematic and thematic account of the Diploma programme’s process, organisation and vision together with conclusions and recommendations drawn from the findings within the study.

This resource is a report which focuses on the learning and teaching needs of pupils with autism spectrum disorders up to the end of Key Stage 1, utilising a research study published in 2001 by the NFER to collaborate many of the author's views and suggestions . The research study itself, the report informs the reader, explores the range of provision Local Authorities were making available at that time, for pupils with autism spectrum disorders up to the end of Key Stage 1. This brief reports the last stages of a study which has followed pupils with a specific speech and language difficulty (SSLD) through their school career to post 16 provision. Specific speech and language difficulties occur in about 7% of children, have no obvious cause and those concerned have no other learning difficulties. The study compares the progress of pupils with SSLD with those who have SEN and typically developing pupils.
A study by Martin Smith of the University of Toronto and Jean-Bernard Caron of the Royal Ontario Museum sheds new light on a previously unclassifiable 500 million-year-old squid-like carnivore known as Nectocaris pteryx. The new interpretation became possible with the discovery of 91 new fossils that were collected from the Burgess Shale site in the UNESCO World Heritage Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, BC. The findings are presented in "Primitive soft-bodied cephalopods from the Cambrian", publis
