Introduction
The Architectural Humanities Research Group (originally the Architectural History and Theory Group) was established in 2002 by members of staff at the Department of the Built Environment whose research interests lie within the broad area of architectural humanities. The group has contributed to the research culture within the Department, supporting, developing, promoting, and disseminating advanced research, learning, and teaching in the history and theory of architecture. This work is informed by diverse multidisciplinary interests and expertise in areas such as architectural history and criticism, philosophy of technology, critical and cultural theory, museums and visual culture - whilst also being grounded in the discipline of scholarly research methodologies.
Exciting opportunities exist for postgraduate study in architectural humanities, including the innovative interdisciplinary taught Masters course: MA in Architecture and Critical Theory, the Master of Architecture (Design) and the MArch (Theory and Design), as well as postgraduate research degrees: MPhil and PhD. Further information on these and other topics can be found here.
The AHRG also has links with other Schools, Departments and research groups within the University, including:
The Department of Culture, Film and Media
The Nottingham Institute for Research in Visual Culture
The Science, Technology and Culture Research Group.
The AHRG also played a founding role in the creation of the national subject association, AHRA, the Architectural Humanities Research Association, and hosted the 2nd Annual AHRA International Conference at Nottingham in November 2005.
The AHRG has conducted regular research seminars and guest lectures since 2002 and details of the current series can be found by following the 'Seminars' link. Previous sessions are listed under 'Archives'.
