Ed Copeland’s home page

In January 2005 Professor Ed Copeland moved from Sussex, where he had been chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department, to Nottingham University in order to set up a new Particle Theory Group. The group now has over 15 members including 4 faculty, 2 Postdoctoral Fellows and 11 graduate students, and enjoys close links with both Astronomy and the Quantum Gravity Group in Mathematics.

Ed currently holds the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award. Previous awards include SERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Advanced Fellowship and PPARC Lecturer Fellowship (one of only two awarded in particle physics and astronomy at the time). He has served on a number of panels and committees, including PPARC (formerly Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council) as chairman of the grants panel, and STFC ( Science and Technology Facilities Council) as chair of the review panel of the IPPP.

A regular invited speaker at international conferences, Ed has lectured in numerous summer and winter schools for graduate students. He has supervised over 20 PhD students and has a strong commitment to teaching and science outreach. In addition to carrying out research and teaching at Nottingham University Ed gives talks in local schools and has organised workshops for talented young students.
