Welcome to the Starch Processing Centre

The Starch Processing Centre is based at the Sutton Bonington Campus of the University of Nottingham and is supported by the East Midlands Development Agency. 

Starch is the major component in animal and human foods and is becoming increasingly important as a component of biodegradable packaging, biofuels and the starting material for many other compounds. The Centre encompasses:

  • best practice in manufacture
  • product quality
  • decreasing environmental impact
  • innovative ingredients
  • inventive processing
  • waste utilisation

The Centre
The Starch Centre provides state of the art facilities and a focal point in the region for knowledge transfer and development on starches, starchy materials and associated compounds.  The Centre contains pilot scale processing equipment, instrumentation for quality assessments and apparatus that provides an understanding of starch as it changes during processing.
