Blockchain as a technology has been used in fields such as finance, health care, supply chain and transport, with the main goal of improving the security and concerns between all the stake- holders eliminating the need for the third party. The way in which blockchain mediates disputes between different stakeholders is through the use of smart contracts. Smart contracts are used to facilitate negotiation between stakeholders. In urban cities the sharing economy movement has become popular in recent years, services like Uber and AirBnB are solving problems related to money, space and time. Ridesharing has become an important component of sustainable transportation across communities increasing vehicle utilization while reducing road utilization. Current ridesharing systems work in a centralised environment maintaining all the data about the current users. However, the relationship between governments, service providers and users has been corrupted and difficult to evolve in a natural way because of the lack of trust between each other. This is where the value of blockchain could be taken to solve conflicts between parties, increase data security and remove the need for service providers, resulting in an auto- mated and secure solution. In this report, a decentralised ridesharing solution is proposed in which we demonstrate how decentralised solutions can be developed to improve the ridesharing experience. Also, we propose two main smart contracts to manage transactions in the system such as a ride request contract and auto-deposit payments contract. This proposal is an effort to improve the future of smart cities and smarter transportation systems.
