Current Research

My research is about biogeochemical processing of nitrogen and silicon within the Red River Delta (RRD), Vietnam. The aim of this student research proposal is to better understand nutrient biogeochemical cycling in the RRD. The RRD has seen rapid population and agricultural expansion in recent decades, which has severely impacted the water quality and nutrient stoichiometry of this river system (e.g.via point source pollution, upstream dam impoundments and nutrient loading). Via the application of experimental design and novel isotope approaches, the outcomes of this research will be to best inform stakeholder management of the river system, with a view to informing policy design in the light of future anthropogenic and climate change pressures. This research is also closely aligned to a Newton Fund project currently held at the University of Nottingham (PI Prof Suzanne McGowan) and will benefit the ongoing partnership of the collaborators at this institute and the Vietnamese Academy of Sciences and Technology (VAST)
