Head of Centre for English Language Education

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality EAP teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China.

Throughout the academic year, the Centre is also actively involved in the delivery of English language assessment, teaching training, and the delivery of bespoke courses in various aspects of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The Centre now seeks a Head to provide academic leadership, strategic development and ensure smooth operation of the entire Centre.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified English language teaching professionals who are able to offer relevant senior level management experience and expertise in one or more of the following key fields: EAP/ESP teaching, Teacher training (experience in the delivery of internationally recognised qualifications such as CELTA, DELTA and their equivalents preferred), EAP/ESP syllabus and curriculum design, EAP/ESP assessment, E-learning and the application of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).

Candidates should hold a first degree, a higher degree and/or other postgraduate qualifications in ELT/Linguistics or other relevant area, and be familiar with quality assurance systems within the UK higher educational context. Candidates are expected to have excellent people management and leadership skills, and proper financial skills to manage budgetary resources. Candidates are also expected to have demonstrable experience in curriculum design and staff development.

Salary will be within the range of £50,618 to £60,410 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments. 

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of 5 years starting 1 August 2018. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
