The Faculty of Science and Engineering brings together all the aerospace research and teaching activities within the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and has a strong globalization agenda and is strongly linked between the three University of Nottingham International Campuses, i.e. in UK, Malaysia and China campuses. It is expected that the successful candidate will support the globalization efforts of the Faculty and support teaching activity and joint research programmes across the campuses.
Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent and post-doctoral academic research experience in a field related to Aircraft Design and Performance (including flight mechanics) and/or Composites Materials. It is required that the candidate has practical experience and expertise with practical aspects in his areas of research. It is essential that the candidate has proven experience in research leadership and has a proven track record in project management.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to supervise undergraduate and masters dissertations in the area of Aircraft Design and Performance. The person appointed will be expected to conduct original research in appropriate fields and play a lead role in collaborative research projects, leading to high quality publications and grant income. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with the administration of the Faculty of Science and Engineering in general and thus contribute to the Faculty’s growth in the field of Aerospace Engineering.
This post is related to the teaching of undergraduate courses in the fields of aircraft design and performance (including flight mechanics) covering topics such as aircraft classification and configurations, aircraft design procedures, aircraft characteristics and performance, preliminary aerodynamics analysis, flight envelopes, steady flight conditions and static stability.
The successful candidate will be expected to have extensive research experience and expertise in either Aircraft Design with a focus on Flight Mechanics or in the area of light weighting materials, such as Composites. Based on their expertise and experience, the candidate will also be joining a research group within the Faculty. This could potentially be the Composites Research Group within the University, where the successful applicant will be responsible for materials mechanics, computational materials and engineering, and design of composite structures.
Salary will be within the range of £35,550 – £47,722 per annum for assistant professor and £50,618 - £60,410 per annum for associate professor depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.
This post is available from August 2018 and will initially be offered on tenure track equivalent contract with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
