Expertise Summary

Robert's expertise is in the areas of public international law, international human rights law, and business and human rights.

He has provided advice and training to governments (in both developed and developing countries), corporations, international organization, non-governmental organizations and peoples, especially concerning international human rights law issues. This includes advising on the drafting of new constitutions and on the right to self-determination, and being an advocate (barrister) before the UK Supreme Court and the International Court of Justice.

He is co-author of one of the leading texts in international law: Cases and Materials on International Law (6th ed., 2018); and is on the editorial board of a number of respected academic journals, including the International and Comparative Law Quarterly.

My current research is on corporate responsibilities in relation to human rights impacts.
