Africa Summit

The University of Nottingham is proud to host the Inaugural 'Africa Summit'. This one-day event will create a platform for key issues and an opportunity to discuss practical potential solutions. Prominent leaders in business and governance in Africa will gather together to debate and discuss, with opinions and input encouraged from the audience.

The theme of this year’s summit will be ‘Where is Africa Going?’

The summit aims to be bold. It will discuss the potential of Africa and the practical steps to take to harness this potential. Based on the African Development Banks’ ‘High Fives’, the summit will identify the key milestones necessary for the continent to achieve efficiency and development:

  • Feed Africa
  • Integrate Africa
  • Industrialise Africa
  • Improve the quality of life of Africans
  • Power and light up Africa


The University is very privileged to confirm a fabulous list of internationally renowned experts on the region who will speak at the event. Including:

  9. Dr Josephine Ojiambo - Deputy Secretary General at the Commonwealth
  10. Dr Adelheid Werimo Onyango - Regional Adviser WHO
  11. Professor Simon McGrath - UNESCO Chair in the Political Economy of Education
  12. Professor Hardev Singh - Chair Trustee of The Haydn Green Foundation
  13. Dr Koumba Boly Barry - Ex Minister of Education Burkina Faso
  14. Dr Ken Giami - CEO of the African Leadership Magazine
  15. Professor Martin Broadley - Professor of Plant Nutrition

The summit is also awaiting confirmation from:

A mix of students and corporate individuals from businesses within the area are expected.
