University of Nottingham Telethon

Each semester students from the University of Nottingham engage alumni like you through our Telethon.

These conversations play a crucial part in enabling you to keep a link with your University, providing you the opportunity to share valuable insight from your time at Nottingham. Our students love to hear about what Nottingham was like before they started and what our alumni have gone on to do. It’s also a great opportunity for students to update you on what’s currently happening on campus.

We also ask if you would like to support the students of today and the future by donating to some of the great causes at the University. We hugely value the chance we have to catch up and share updates with you - not everyone wants to make a donation but when alumni take an active role in the future of our students and the University by giving it's amazing.

How it works

Up to 20,000 alumni are selected to be included in each Telethon, this includes alumni of all ages and backgrounds. Over the last 25 years we have spoken on the phone with alumni in the UK, USA and across Europe.

Around 40 students are selected each year to be part of the student calling team. Calls take place in the Trent Building during term time in the evenings and on weekends. Working closely with University staff, we maintain a friendly and professional environment where students can thrive and make the most of their opportunity to speak to people like you.

Please note: We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what we do with it - find out more.

"It’s important to keep in touch with alumni to remind them of how far they’ve come, help them recollect the good times, and to just generally see how they are. Chats with alumni were always uplifting (useful during some of the more difficult times!), and career and life advice was always plentiful. It was comforting to know that there was a life after university, and that the University of Nottingham could continue to be a part of it!"

"I think it’s great that we can build a better sense of community through student-alumni connections. The Telethon has drastically improved my communication skills and given me confidence in my abilities. I’ve been offered opportunities, learned about potential career paths, hopefully made alumni feel valued and gained invaluable skills like leadership and teamwork. I’d like to thank all the alumni who have answered the phone and taken time out of their day to talk to my colleagues or myself, you make the Telethon what it is."

"I can honestly not think of a better job to have had while at university! I spoke to so many interesting people. With alumni being so well-placed to offer vital perspective, it was a great chance to develop whilst working for a fantastic cause - strengthening links and also raising funds for scholarships. I can still remember some of the conversations I had years later, which is testament to how impactful some of the calls can be on the lives of the students."
