Description
Tomlinson-208

Professor Antonio Donini (Global Migration Centre, Geneva and Tufts University), Former Director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance to Afghanistan, will deliver the Tomlinson Memorial Lecture for 2014 on 20 November (please note the change of date from that originally advertised). He will be speaking on ‘Humanitarian Landscapes: Deep Lessons from Afghanistan’.

After 35 years of conflict, military occupations and humanitarian crises, Afghanistan is at a crucial crossroads. One road leads to another abyss of conflict and fragmentation. The other to a perhaps more stable future where war gives way to an uncertain peace. Either way, there will be no going back: the change that has happened is irreversible even if the change that has happened is unsustainable. The talk will explore two aspects of this change and what we can learn from them:

  • How humanitarian action has changed Afghanistan
  • How Afghanistan has changed humanitarian action

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception. Please register for catering purposes to Ailsa Mitchell.

All are welcome.
