When using our brand colours online we must make sure we are complying with accessibility guidelines.
The compliance we adhere to are the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines produced by the World Wide Web Consortium. These aim to improve web accessibility for users.
If you would like to check that the colours you are using are accessible, you can also use a colour contrast checker.
Our colour chart shows how we can use colour accessibly in typography and how different colour combinations adhere to either AA or AAA compliance. It also shows which colour combinations to avoid, to ensure our communications are suitable for all audiences.
AAA compliance (preferred) requires a contrast ratio of 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for larger text.
AA compliance requires a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
Any combinations marked with an "X" are not to be used as they contravene our approach to accessibility.
Small text is 12–17px and large text is 18px minimum.
