Engineers in Business Award

Sponsored by Engineers in Business Fellowship, this competition is run in conjunction with the Business School’s Entrepreneurship and Business module.

The E&B module and the Engineers in Business competition take students through the ‘Ingenuity Process’ – from identifying a problem to selecting a viable concept, research, intellectual property considerations, product development and marketing processes.

Calling all engineering students looking for optional modules.

Engineering students are invited to enrol onto the Business School’s Entrepreneurship and Business module. If you are entering your second and third year contact your school's undergraduate office for information on deadlines for selecting modules.

The Prize Fund

The team with the most original and exciting idea with practical application, will win the Engineers in Business Award, along with a share of the £1,500 prize fund and career mentoring from the Engineers in Business Fellowship

The runner-up team will receive £1,000 and the team placed third will receive £500.

This year, the Water Porter team took first prize for a new multi-purpose barrel that would, as its primary function, transport large quantities of water more efficiently than current methods. Water Porter - 2017 First Prize Winner

How to apply?

The competition is open to any team with at least one engineering student

  • Contact Chris Mahon and sign-up for the Business School’s Entrepreneur & Business (E&B) Module (N11440) 
  • Once on the course Students form teams in order to participate in the competition.  
  • As a team you will experience the full “Ingenuity Process” in order to develop the concept.
  • Business concepts will be presented to a panel of judges in order to select the winner.
