Business School alumnus awarded an MBE
01 July 2013
Many congratulations to alumnus Charles Trippe who was awarded an MBE for services to tennis in the 2013 Queen’s birthday honours list.
Mr. Trippe graduated in 1965 with a degree in Industrial Economics from what was then called The Department of Industrial Economics, Accounting and Insurance but later became The School of Management and Finance and is now Nottingham University Business School.
A tennis devotee, Mr. Trippe represented Great Britain at the 1965 World Student Games in Budapest and played for his county at senior level for 22 years. He was President of the Veterans' Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) of Great Britain from 2003 to 2005, having also served previously as a Council member and Chairman of its Development Board. In 1998 he became Honorary Treasurer. From 2005 to 2009 Mr. Trippe was a member of the International Tennis Federation Board (ITF) and a Vice President as well as Chairman of the ITF Seniors and Constitutional Committees. In 2009 he was appointed to the ITF Davis Cup Committee, a position that he still holds today.
In January 2011, Mr. Trippe joined the Tennis Foundation Board of Trustees as Honorary Treasurer. The Tennis Foundation is Great Britain's leading tennis charity which engages with all parts of the community to provide opportunities to encourage people to play and enjoy tennis, as well as to maximise their personal potential through the sport. The Foundation focuses particularly on education and tennis for disabled people by promoting tennis as an inclusive sport across a wide range of disabilities and helping more people play tennis at schools, colleges and universities.
