Asian Society for Innovation and Policy (ASIP) 2014 Malaysia Conference

10 September 2014

The 4th annual meeting and conference of the Asian Society for Innovation and Policy was held this year from 4 – 6 August in Kuala Lumpur and was co-hosted by Nottingham University Business School Malaysia along with Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information; and Korea Technology Innovation Society.

ASIP, whose slogan is ‘Innovation for Sustainable Asia’, is an open network of researchers and professionals supporting and promoting sustainable innovation for Asia. The Society evolved from conferences on innovation held between the Korea Technology Innovation Society and the Chinese Society for Techno-economics in 2005 and 2006. It believes in the fundamental principle that innovation and learning based on science, technology and knowledge is the key for development even in the worst international political climates. Another central tenet underpinning the Society is that innovation and learning is encouraged by interaction between disciplines, sectors, and countries and should be diffused for development in Asian countries.

ASIP publishes the Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy and every summer organises the Asian Conference on Innovation and Policy. This year’s conference, which was also supported by Malaysian higher education institutions the Multimedia University and the University of Malaya, was themed ‘Entrepreneurship. Human Resources & Innovation’ and included key note sessions and presentations with speakers from government, industry and academia from eight countries.

Professor Christine Ennew, Provost and CEO of University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, and Professor Sung-Soo Seol, President of the Asian Society of Innovation and Policy, provided the opening addresses.
