CICCS hosts Annual Conference
On the 12th November 2009, the CICCS Annual Conference was held in the Trent Building at the University Park Campus, Nottingham.
Dr Stephen Brown from CO2Sense presents at our event
The conference was attended by over 100 delegates and was opened by the University's Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Chris Rudd. The Director of the Centre, Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer then presented an update of the last years projects and gave an overview of the new challenges and exciting opportunities that are anticipated for the coming year.
The guests included a good cross section from both academia and industry, and some of the “hot topics” regarding Carbon Capture and Storage technologies were discussed. These ranged from the development of new CO2 compressors to innovative monitoring techniques. Round table discussion groups involving both the panel and the public, focused on the main issues facing CCS development. For example, the barriers facing widespread CCS development, how to better communicate with the public, how to encourage public acceptance as this is one of the key factors in the deployment of any CCS strategy. These discussions were followed by presentations to the winners of the first Postgraduate Student Poster Competition.
The team at CICCS would like to thank the organizers, guests and delegates who made this Annual Conference an important and successful event in the tradition of knowledge sharing. We hope to see you all again next year!
