Career planning will take time even if you have a light-bulb moment!
You will develop ideas, find out about what careers involve by speaking to people in those roles and through getting a work placement. You'll then be in a better position to know if it is right for you. If it is, then start applying and if not, then you can look at other possibilities. Give yourself time to make the right choice for you.

Many first year students think it is too early to start thinking about their future, but in our experience it is never too early. Whether you have one or several career ideas or none at all, it is a good idea to start researching possible career options by:
Join the Nottingham Advantage Award
Find out about part-time opportunities
Register with Unitemps Nottingham to find out about casual work on and off campus
Become a volunteer and get involved with the Students' Union
Listen to first year Arjun about how he got involved in university life (7 mins)
I have used my experiences as a Student Ambassador to complete a module for the Nottingham Advantage Award.
I'm interested in becoming a journalist after University, so I've joined Impact, the University's student-run magazine.
The application process was really easy; all you have to do is submit a CV and covering letter and the Unitemps staff do the rest.
Research opportunities for first year internships by talking to a member of staff
Find out about the career options with your degree
Use Prospects Career Planner to develop job ideas
Find out about the range of jobs open to graduates
