International Work Experience Grant


Are you interested in undertaking work experience in another country, but worried about the cost? The International Work Experience Grant can offer up to £750 to support you.

Designed to enable students to undertake work experience opportunities that they might not otherwise be able to afford, the grant will support expenses such as accommodation, travel and visas, living costs and vaccinations. 


This grant is only available to assist with opportunities that do not form part of your course requirements. Find out more about eligibility criteria.

How does it work?

The grant will be awarded to support your expenses such as:

  • accommodation
  • travel expenses (including visas)
  • living costs
  • utilities
  • vaccinations
  • travel insurance
  • other relevant expenses
As part of the process, you will be required to give detailed evidence of anticipated costs, and where relevant, any salary that you will be paid by undertaking your work experience placement.

You will be expected to find your own work experience opportunity. If you wish to access support with finding an overseas placement, you can book an appointment with us, or visit our Internships abroad page where you can find plenty of helpful resources to help your search.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for this grant, the following criteria must be met:

  • You must be a current, full-time undergraduate student at the University of Nottingham
  • You must be based on the UK campus for the entirety of your degree, or a 2+2 student from The University of Nottingham China or Malaysia Campus
  • You must be due to return to continue your studies at the University's UK campus after the 2018 summer vacation

The following are not eligible to apply for the grant:

  • Final year undergraduates
  • Postgraduate taught students
  • PhD/postgraduate research students
  • Foundation year students
  • International students on exchange at the UK campus for one year only

The work experience opportunity must:

  • take place during the 2018 summer vacation (between 22 June and 24 September). Earlier dates will be considered - please provide dates when applying
  • take place outside of the United Kingdom
  • take place outside of your home country (if you are an international student)
  • be in a country to which it is deemed safe to travel according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
  • not form part of your course requirements
