Summer internships: advice for existing applicants

The deadline for summer internships has now passed. The following advice is for existing applicants

  • These are full-time internships, typically working a 9–5 working day.
  • We encourage you to apply to no more than three internships. Read the job details carefully before making your selections based on your interests and skills, and the location of the business.
  • All applications must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 22 April 2018. We recommend submitting an early application, as we will not be in the office over the weekend to help with technical problems.
  • You will need to organise your own accommodation for the duration of the internship.

Networking engineering internship
 

Exeid are a commercial property consultancy specialising in the serviced office market. We deal with large, global businesses as well as small and medium enterprises. Exeid are a unique company and one of only a handful of UK companies which combine the expertise of site acquisition through to design, build, fund and fit-out of property locations.

We follow up with a full facilities and IT management package which means we focus on maintaining the properties and IT provision.

Job description:

We are looking for a network engineer who will support the implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure and communication equipment spanning multiple sites and cities.

Our company is responsible for the management of multiple sites across cities; each location usually having more than a single point of incoming connectivity, which is then segmented using equipment to control bandwidth allocation and traffic routing to multiple clients within each building.

We supply VoIP services using a dedicated SIP platform, configuration and set up of all network infrastructure and VoIP equipment is handled in-house. IT support is currently not offered to clients however, is an opportunity of quick expansion of our company, so we are seeking an individual with the drive and ambition to take this forward while supporting our existing offered services effectively. 

You will be part of a small team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures to ensure the smooth operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for users. 

Skills/requirements:

You will need to have a good technical understanding and be willing to learn new skills as a network engineer. You will also need excellent communication skills in order to fully support the users. 

A degree in the following subjects is likely to help:

  • computer science;
  • computer software or computer systems engineering;
  • computer systems and networks;
  • electrical or electronic engineering;
  • mathematics;
  • network security management;
  • physics.

Job description:

As GeoSLAM continues to grow, we are looking for talented front end web developers to join our successful and growing team to help us further enhance our products, contributing to developing the world’s leading SLAM technology, which is changing the landscape of the mapping industry.

Your main duties will be:

  • The development and maintenance of our web-based desktop application (javascript, Node.js, ReactJS, three.js). The application controls our 3D SLAM data processing engine; visualises, exports and manipulates collected data; and integrates with third-party tools.  
  • To interface with local services, remote web services and third-party tools and utilities.

Example tasks:

  • Adding features to the point cloud visualisation interface (three.js, WebGL)
  • Enable uploading datasets from our desktop application to our cloud platform (node.js, ReactJS, html, CSS)
  • Implementing an auto-update mechanism in our desktop application (electron, node.js, ReactJS, html, CSS)

Skills/requirements:

We are looking for people who are excited about the opportunities ahead and being part of a growing company, working at the leading edge of SLAM innovation.

  • Ideally we would like candidates to be working towards a degree in a computer science or with a background in mathematics, physics or 3D
  • Graphics with web development experience

Essential:

  • Javascript HTML, CSS development skills

Job description:

ICN is constantly planning two to three versions ahead in terms of its app releases, across its portfolio, and for its third party partner clients. The purpose of the role will be to learn the fundamentals of a number of apps within ICN’s portfolio, and then, with guidance from experienced developers and product managers, play a lead role both in having input to future specifications, and then building to those specifications to agreed timescales.

Job duties will include:

  • Working directly with product managers to conceptualise, build, test and realise products
  • Keep up to date on the latest industry trends in the mobile technologies
  • Deliver across the entire app life cycle – concept, design, build, deploy, test, release to app stores and support
  • Updating, repairing, modifying and developing existing software and generic applications

Training:

  • Relevant training necessary will be provided to support the job role and your activities, but this is very much a ‘learning on the job’ role

Essential:

Some evidence of having previously worked in X code and having a basic understanding of core data programming for iOS is the preferred start point for this role. However, evidence of having worked in Android and an aptitude to learn iOS X Code during the internship will also be considered.

Desirable:

An understanding or demonstration of competence in the following areas would be preferred, with further mentoring and development then in these areas as the role develops:

Job description:

The position will be junior developer, working closely with our head of programming.

Starting as an intern, with the intention after 12 weeks to continue as a trainee developer, and within six months to become a fully trained member of the development team.

LC Tech is a global leader in data recovery. We specialise in writing software tools and providing lab services for flash memory and hard drives. We are experts in data recovery from memory cards and flash memory, recommended by SanDisk for over 10 years, also PNY, Delkin, G-Technology, Canon UK, Sony UK and Arri.

We are also approved suppliers to the BBC, ITV, a growing number of other data recovery companies, law enforcements, retailers, and various other sectors, both here in the UK and throughout Europe and the world. 

We write the SanDisk RescuePRO software, Toshiba’s, PNYs’ and Delkin’s data recovery tools, and have also written Kroll OnTrack’s Easy Recovery. We also receive downloads and devices in our labs from around 100 countries. 

In our labs we are experts at removing memory chips for chip reads (NAND reads), so even corrupted or seemingly dead devices may be recoverable. We can also attempt to reverse engineer unusual chips and forensically recover and repair complex file types.

Head office is Florida, USA. Our European lab is here in Nottingham, and we have a new lab opening in Japan. Other locations may open due to continued growth, including The Netherlands, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
