Captain Xu is a specialist (both as a scholar and a military officer) on China's crisis management, and has a track record of English and Chinese publications on international military cooperation on non-traditional global security issues and military confidence-building.
Her current research focuses on cooperation between the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the EU and NATO on non-traditional global security issues, including post-disaster relief, United Nations peacekeeping, anti-piracy operations and critical-infrastructure protection. Her position as Captain and Associate Professor at the Research Center for Crisis Management at the NDU in China is very important to China’s policy making and practices in this field, as the NDU is one of the central units within the Chinese government, providing policy recommendations and teaching for Chinese military officers.
Captain Xu and the three nominating academic sponsors will look to develop, in particular, collaborative interdisciplinary research on the topic of China’s post-disaster assistance and international cooperation, with a focus on the Sichuan earthquake of 2008.
