Professor Paul Grainge delivering a presentation to students

The Creative Student Network works with the Department of Cultures, Media and Visual Studies and the wider university to host events with staff, former students and guest speakers from the creative industries. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain valuable advice and network with industry professionals.

Examples of previous events

Industry speaker: Francine Marchetti
Leading Visual Effects Producer

In March 2013, we hosted Francine Marchetti, one of Hollywood's leading Visual Effects Producers. Francine ran a number of sessions including a discussion of how the Oscar-winning Visual Effects for The Life of Pi (Ang Lee, 2012) were created, a Q&A on how to get started in Visual Effect as a career and a roundtable with research students working on 3D television and Motion Capture.

Industry speaker: Katie Sexton
Film and Television Studies graduate

Former student, Katie, was one of the first interns to go to Fox Studios and is currently working in the marketing department at Lionsgate UK. Katie gave an engaging and highly informative talk on her experiences since leaving Nottingham. For our students aiming to develop a career in this industry, it was a fantastic opportunity to gain worthwhile tips and advice on how to succeed in this competitive environment.
