I'm currently a research associate based at German Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. I work with Prof. Nicola Mclelland on Stand 2 of the wider Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies (MEITS) project (more info here). Stand 2 (more info here) focuses on 'Standard languages, norms and variation: comparative perspectives in multilingual contexts' and I will be conducting research on the topic of language standardisation, variation and multilingualism in China.
I finished my PhD in (socio)linguistics at Queen Mary University of London in 2017, and my thesis investigates language variation in Mandarin Chinese in Beijing and its social meaning. I have a BA in English from South-Central University for Nationalities [中南民族大学] in Wuhan, China and an MA in Linguistics from Queen Mary.
I will be teaching/guest lecturing 'R94RML Research Methods in Linguistics: Language, History and Society' for 2017-18.
