The Emancipation Proclamation in the United Kingdom
My research is looking at the wider, international, impact of Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, with particular focus on the United Kingdom. My interest in this subject is long standing, having grown up in Illinois 'the Land of Lincoln' and spending a lot of time visiting various historical sites around the United States, mostly in the Southern States. I also spent much of my time growing up in the south of England and thus have developed several views towards American history. I aim to explore further in my thesis by taking a view that is usually not more than a fleeting reference in the existing historiography.
Within the scope of this project I will be looking at major political figures responses and general social response and how that interacts within well documented media sources. The intent with this approach is to prove a wider, often overlooked, impact on global issues and the approach to them.
