Biography

I received a BA in English Studies with International Business in 2014 from the University of Nottingham and an MA in English Linguistics from University College London in 2015.I am currently a Year 2 PhD student in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.

Current Research

My PhD study investigate the under-researched history of teaching and learning Mandarin Chinese as a second language to the ethnic minority groups in China since 1900 - Using Mongols in Inner Mongolia as a case study,in order to investigate how the national language standards are promulgated within a multilingual society over time and examining the intertwining relationship between national identity and ethnic identity in the language teaching. Textbooks are the primary source but the study will also draw on a wide range of other supplementary sources, including policy documents, statements of pedagogical theory, classroom observations and personal testimonies through interviews.

Research interests:

Chinese sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, language standardization and variation, history of language learning and teaching
