Session 1 - 'Being an assertive teacher- in control and calm'

Abstract: A discussion and a range of strategies to enable and empower you - the teacher. Students are encouraged to ask questions and so they question everything and this includes their teacher! The session is to give top tips for setting the classroom climate and encourage the teacher to be the assertive practitioner. An assertive, positive and can-do classroom will enable the students to progress further and ensure the teacher assumes their true role- calm and in control.
本次讲座将介绍一系列课堂管理策略给老师赋能。学生在课堂上可能会对各方面（包括老师）提出质疑。本讲座将为老师提供有效实用的建议，使教师自信沉着地掌控课堂，营造积极乐观的课堂氛围，从而使学生取得更大的进步。
Short bio: Nick Brown is an experienced teacher of Languages with a passion for languages for all and the comprehensive sector. He has been a head of department in schools in a variety of different contexts and worked as an assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning. He spent a year’s secondment as a county Advisor and holds a Master’s Degree focussed on classroom climate and preparing students for life beyond the classroom.
Session 2 - Title: How to Conduct Differentiated Teaching Online

Abstract: What is differentiated teaching? How can it be used in mandarin lessons to help students learn more effectively and autonomously? How can the teachers implement it in online classrooms to boost the students' interest and motivation and improve their language skills?
By addressing these questions, the speaker will highlight the power of differentiated teaching method and the ways it can help each individual student reach their full potential.
什么是差异化教学？如何在中文课堂中利用差异化教学帮助学生更有效自主地学习？ 网络课堂中如何实施差异化教学，以提高学生兴趣、加强学习动力、增进语言能力？ 希望通过这个讲座，能与各位老师一起探讨差异化学习这个话题并且进一步加深对它的理解和使用，以便让我们每一个学生都能发挥潜能，取得最大的进步。
Short bio: Xiaoming Zhu is National Network Coordinator at the UCL IOE Confucius Institute. Her role is to provide support and advice to the UCL IOE Confucius Classrooms and other schools in the wider network, in their teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese, at both strategic and practical levels. As the first Chinese national to gain UK Qualified Teacher Status, Xiaoming has rich experience and a passion for teaching Mandarin Chinese in schools, particularly in curriculum development, resource creation and teacher training. Xiaoming holds a BA degree from Xi’an Foreign Languages University and an MA in Education from the University of Nottingham. She is also the published author of a series of teaching resources: she co-authored the Jinbu 1, Jinbu 2 and the Edexcel GCSE Chinese textbooks written in partnership with Pearson, and Edexcel Chinese for AS with Hodder.
